El Museo Naval de Cartagena (2) / Naval Museum at Cartagena (2)

As far we know, the most popular museum in the Region de Murcia is the Naval Museum at Cartagena.

In the past year, this museum has received several add-ons. The first one (and less known) is a battery of historical guns placed in front of the main entrance, by the sea. Another artillery battery was in the same place over two hundred years ago (see bullet 23 at The Arsenal of Cartagena).

At least one of these guns was captured to the British in 1782, during the reconquest of Menorca island. Others are the only remains of the 5 ships of the line bought by Fernando VII to Russian Czar Alexander I in 1818. It was one of the worse business ever made by a Spanish government because the ships were rot mostly.

The second change is the new location of the restored submarine Peral. Now it is inside a building close to the museum where you can see it in detail. Besides, a lot of information in both, English and Spanish, is available to visitors (remember it is a bilingual museum).

In short, no doubt this museum deserves (another) visit. Enjoy it!
